Catching up with: Alexandria Masse
Alexandria Masse, winner of the 2022 Fluevog Artist Grant, is a textile artist specializing in the construction of wearable art and soft sculptures. Since accepting the artist grant earlier this year, Alexandria has graduated with her Bachelor s of Fine Arts at NSCAD University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Utilizing techniques passed down from her grandmother, Alexandria enjoys weaving together childhood memories and present day experiences to explore themes of family and love in her work. With funds from the artist grant, Alexandria decided to create a giant crochet spider named Abigail, measuring 3-metres wide and filled with 11 kilograms of stuffing. 190 crochet circles and 2 months of dedicated work later, Abigail was ready to venture out into the world and has since found her home at Fluevog Toronto Distillery.  Check out Alexandria's video below as she documents the process and work that went into bringing Abigail to life. Modeled after the woodland spider, a weaving insect, Abigail represents the importance of strong women who practice craft and is made from 100% Canadian wool and polyester.
